About Madam President

B Cubed Press is pleased to extend the  open call for Madam President.

An anthology about leadership.

Women are not new to power.

But the role of women has changed. Those of us of a certain age have lived through the “firsts.”  The woman first elected governor, first woman Justice on the Supreme Court, first woman head of a union, first woman iron worker.

A question comes from these firsts.

A single question that could challenge the wisest to answer in a lifetime.

What Changed?

What became different because a woman took the reigns.

What didn’t change?  What drove those firebrands that fought the fight, endured the prisons, took the beatings, the starvation.

How did having to fight for staff of power affect how is wielded.  Not just from the women who fought these battles, but for the very people engaged, one side, or another who stood for or against those principles that  made it possible for the writing on the office door to say Madam President.

We are looking for stories that tell how this came about, and how it is manifested, and how it will impact all of us.

Write of successes.

Write of failures.

Write of the perfect, the imperfect, the noble, and wretched.

But write the story of the woman who said “I can be more.”

Get to writing my friends.

This book will be edited by Bob Brown and Debora Godfrey, the team that brought you the best-selling Alternative Apocalypse.

We are looking for good writing, imaginative scenarios, and a good bit of humor in stories, essays or poetry.

This book will be part of the best-selling Alternatives series.  We will be accepting stories, poetry, and essays from now through June 30, 2022.

Story length for our books average about 2200 words but have ranged from 100 to 7500 words. However, we only use one or two stories over 5,000 words and our advice is to keep it under 5K, unless we communicate in advance.

Reprints are accepted, but we hold them to a higher standard and limit them in number. Please let us know about prior publication (reprints) on submission (Moksha has an indicator), not after acceptance (that makes us cranky).

Multiple submissions are accepted.

Simultaneous submissions are tolerated.

Pays $.03 a word upon publication, plus a share of the profits.

As always, a share will go to the  ACLU.

Submissions need to include your name, e-mail, wordcount and address on the submission.

If in doubt, SFWA guidelines for short fiction is a great guide: https://www.sfwa.org/2005/01/04/manuscript-format/.

It’s always good to make an editor happy. Adherence to guidelines makes Debora happy.

Poetry should be formatted as you wish it to appear. EACH POEM SHOULD BE SUBMITTED SEPARATELY.

We use Moksha, submissions are accepted at Submission Link MOKSHA.

Just remember, the title on the door is Madam President.
